Plugins Swiss Post’s plugins

Swiss Post’s plugins enable online shop operators to create shipping labels with ease. Address verification also reduces the number of returns.

Swiss Post’s digital commerce API is a platform with multiple interfaces for business customers, all under a single login. This API (application programming interface) has been used to create plugins for online shops, which are comparable to apps for smartphones. They allow retailers to integrate Swiss Post services into their online shops without having to do extra development work, meaning a better ordering experience for customers and less work for retailers.

Two modules for popular online shop systems

Two modules are offered as plugins for popular shop systems: barcodes and address verification.

The barcode function allows retailers to print shipping labels with barcodes for parcels, letters and express consignments directly from the online shop system. Shipping options (e.g. ECO or PRIO) can be individually specified for different consignments. Bulk output is also possible, for example, when all consignments will have the same shipping option. These features make the shipping process easier and saves both time and money.

Address verification checks that recipients’ addresses are correct. Address details are validated by the most up-to-date address directory in Switzerland. During address verification, both personalised and non-personalised address components are compared with Swiss Post’s master data.

This is also helpful for the customer, because most online shop systems have an autocomplete feature. This means the customer only needs to enter part of their address into the order form. Autocomplete will then suggest possible correct addresses to them to complete it.

This is great for retailers, too, because correct addresses mean fewer returns, and they make misuse of address data more difficult. The entire shipping process is smoother, which leads to increased customer satisfaction.

At the end of the first quarter, plugins for the following online shop systems will be available:

  • Shopify
  • Magento (version 1 and 2)
  • WooCommerce
  • PrestaShop

Retailers wishing to use the plugins can get started by downloading the one for their online shop system. After installing it, login details can be requested from Swiss Post. The number of interfaces for the plugins and the number of shop systems that are supported will be continuously expanded in the near future.
