The coronavirus crisis has turned a number of our everyday habits upside down. People’s needs have changed and digitization continues at an ever faster pace. The demand for contactless payment is a good example of this.

Contactless payment is not only convenient and secure but meets the need for a hygienic payment method during this pandemic. Conducting our everyday lives with as little direct contact as possible remains the goal. According to Bitkom (in German) President Achim Berg, there are few behavioural patterns that coronavirus has changed as dramatically as paying by card or smartphone.

The number of transactions made using the TWINT payment app has risen by 50 percent since January 2020. Demand from new customers has also gone through the roof since the coronavirus outbreak: the company has seen new registrations double since it began.
